Fashion Tips for Men: Casual Shirts

Men's casual shirts are a basic item in the wardrobe of any fashionable man. They come in a wide range of styles and designs, so much so, in fact, that it can be difficult to know which ones look hot, and which ones not so much. Here, we look at several different styles of shirts for men, with helpful tips and advice on how to wear them.

Dress Shirts
This is the classic style of shirt, the style that is worn to the office or school. However, although they are found most often in a formal setting, they suit more casual and relaxed environments too.

When choosing a dress shirt that will look great on you, the most important consideration is fit. This may seem obvious, after all, who wears shirts that do not fit them properly? Well, actually, many men do. Men seem to have a penchant for baggy shirts, but the most attractive looking men know that baggy just doesn't cut the mustard. A correct fit will allow you plenty of scope for movement, but should fit snug against the skin. If in doubt, you can always employ the help of a professional tailor - they will generally oblige, regardless of whether or not you purchase an item from their shop.

The colour of the shirt is largely a matter of personal taste. Always wear a colour that complements your skin tone, if in doubt, seek assistance before making a purchase.

When wearing a suit, the advice is to avoid dark shades. However, here, we are talking about casual shirts: dress shirts in dark colours, such as black, red, and grey, look incredibly sexy when teamed with jeans, and is a look that will definitely turn heads.

One last piece of advice, never purchase dress shirts with short sleeves. If may be the middle of summer, you may be feeling hot, but you will not be looking hot in a short-sleeved dress shirt!

Crew Neck Shirt
Again, the essential issue with this style of shirt is fit, the goldilocks rule applies here: not too loose, and not too tight, but just right!

In terms of colour, you are allowed to be a little offbeat with crew neck t-shirts. Purchase bright colours or t-shirts with unusual patterns, and make them the focal point of your outfit - remember the golden rule, however, only one focal point per outfit, so if you wear an outlandish t-shirt, wear plain trousers, jumpers, and shoes. The t-shirt is the best item to have as a focal point because it is relatively small in comparison to jumpers and trousers, meaning that even if you opt for an extremely garish design, you will not appear OTT.

Always opt for a cotton material, as this is not only the most comfortable, it also works best for t-shirts.

V-Neck T-shirts
The same advice is true here, as for crew necks. However, v-necks are notoriously difficult to wear well, and should be reserved for those of you who have some experience in fashion.

Men, who wish to appear tall, should avoid V-necks, as they have the effect of making the body look shorter.
